Are you an experienced planning professional with a passion for sustainable development and regeneration? We are looking for a Head of Development Management and Strategic Planning to lead ambitious regeneration and investment programmes in South London.
In this role, you will drive high-quality planning and development across the borough, ensuring the successful delivery of major projects such as the London Cancer Hub, housing estate regeneration, town centre renewal, and green space enhancements.
As Chief Planning Officer, you will oversee statutory planning functions and manage a multidisciplinary team of approximately 40 staff. You’ll work closely with senior leadership, elected members, and key stakeholders like the GLAto shape policies that support sustainable growth, infrastructure, and economic development.
With a £1.5M budget, you will lead the transformation of planning services, ensuring high performance, modernisation, and compliance with statutory obligations.

🔹 Lead major regeneration and investment programmes across the borough

🔹 Shape and implement strategic policies for sustainable growth and infrastructure
✔ Degree in a relevant field and Chartered Planner Status (RTPI)
✔ Senior management experience in development management, strategic planning, or building control
✔ Strong knowledge of spatial planning, urban design, transport planning, and sustainability
✔ Leadership skills with a proven track record of managing high-performing teams
✔ Experience engaging with government bodies, developers, council members, and residents
✔ Ability to align planning functions with council objectives and financial constraints
✔ Experience providing high-level briefings and working with elected officials
✔ Excellent communication and negotiation skills
